Meet the Artist

Portrait of Kaisa Holsting in ToonMe Challenge style

TL;DR - If you want a quick recap of all my credentials and schools and artist background, you should download this artist one-pager. It should tell you all that you need to know about my career.

If you want the longer story, then continue to read on as I'm really bad at shortening any of my stories. :D

Hello to you, my new art-loving friend! My name is Kaisa Holsting, I'm the Estonian lady behind the brand Art by Sylph. Personally I feel like I'm a colourful contradicting unicorn that loves doing many things and preferably all at once.

My journey as an artist has been nothing short of amazing. From sneaking into children's art school entrance exams at the age of nine to authoring an international DIY book about fused beads and performing on stage with my band (yes, I'm a rockstar too!) on my thirtieth birthday, my life has been full of twists and turns, ups and downs.

While pursuing a degree in Applied Architecture, my love for art never faded. I continued to practice painting, drawing, and graphic arts during and after I dropped out of the university. And my love for IT and engineering led me down a different path for a few years. But deep down, I always knew that I needed to rediscover my passion for art.

So, at the age of 30, I went back to school to study the art of graphic design. After graduating with a diploma in 2017, I packed my bags and moved to Ireland, where I had my first debut exhibition and rediscovered my love for art.

But Ireland wasn't my final destination and I feel like no place ever will be. As a restless soul I spent a few years in my hometown again from 2019-2022 and then left for another adventure, this time to a small island called Gozo in Malta.

In the time I spent in Tartu (my hometown) I managed to join Tartu Artists' Union (Tartu Kunstike Liit), take part in the yearly Artists Exhibition as well as put on a personal flowery solo-exhibition as part of Gallery Night initiative organized by Tartu Aparaaditehas which is a huge cultural and creative center.

What inspires me?

As an artist, I'm known for my unique style, which involves mixing different mediums and playing with opposites. I often combine acrylics with watercolors, pen and paper with pencil drawings, and digital art with traditional mediums. My art is inspired by my own life experiences and heart matters, and I use it to turn my pain into something beautiful and inspiring.

My art reflects the beauty of life, and I hope that my work inspires others to focus on the positive things in life. I believe that overcoming obstacles and rediscovering oneself lead to truly beautiful things blooming and blossoming.

In conclusion, my journey as an artist is a testament to the power of following one's passion. I've pursued many different paths in life, but through it all, my love for art has remained constant. Through my art, I hope to remind others to find the beauty in life and to never give up on their dreams.
